Binance Restricted in Belgium: Best Alternatives for Belgian Traders (2026)
Trading from Belgium and wondering where Binance stands? In 2023 the FSMA — Belgium's financial regulator — ordered Binance to stop offering certain crypto services in the country. Here's what that actually meant, what MiCA changed, and the alternatives Belgian traders use. (General information, not financial or legal advice — verify the current rules for your situation.)
What happened with Binance in Belgium
In June 2023, the FSMA (Financial Services and Markets Authority) ordered Binance to cease offering certain virtual-currency services in Belgium that were being provided from entities based outside the European Economic Area (EEA). It was a restriction on how and from where services could be offered — not a simple "crypto is illegal" ban — but the practical effect was that some Belgian users lost access to parts of the platform. It was part of the same 2023 wave that saw Binance leave the Netherlands; see the full Binance in Europe overview.
What MiCA changed
Since 2023, the EU's MiCA regulation has phased in across 2024–2025, creating a single EU-wide licensing regime that passports across member states — Belgium included. That has reshaped the picture, so don't rely on the 2023 status: check the current availability of any exchange for Belgium before you act.
Best alternatives for Belgian traders
Whether or not Binance fully serves you, these are the venues Belgian traders most often compare:
- Bybit — deep perpetual-futures liquidity.
- OKX — broad markets and competitive fees.
- KuCoin — wide altcoin range.
- Gate — huge selection of perpetual pairs.
- Kraken — long-established and regulation-facing.
They differ on fees, leverage, liquidity and Belgian availability. Our best crypto futures exchanges guide explains how to choose, and you can compare them on our exchanges page. Always confirm the platform serves Belgian residents and is MiCA-compliant before funding in EUR.
