WHY I HOLD BITCOIN (BTC)
WHY I HOLD BITCOIN (BTC)
I hold Bitcoin because I believe in its long-term value proposition, its scarcity, its decentralised nature, and its position within the evolving global financial system.
For me, Bitcoin is more than just another cryptocurrency whose price fluctuates depending on market sentiment. It represents a different approach to money, ownership and financial independence. My decision to hold BTC is based on the belief that, over time, a decentralised monetary network with a verifiably limited supply could become increasingly valuable as more individuals, institutions and businesses recognise its potential.
One of the strongest reasons I hold Bitcoin is its fixed supply of 21 million coins. Unlike traditional currencies, which can be expanded through monetary policy, Bitcoin has a predetermined maximum supply built into its protocol. I consider this an important characteristic because scarcity can contribute to long-term value when accompanied by sufficient demand.
I understand that scarcity alone does not guarantee appreciation. However, when I consider Bitcoin's established network, global recognition, growing institutional participation and limited supply, I see a compelling long-term investment proposition.
Another reason I remain confident in Bitcoin is its decentralisation. Bitcoin operates without depending on a single government, central bank or financial institution to authorise transactions or control its monetary supply. Its distributed network of participants helps maintain the integrity of the system.
This matters to me because I believe financial systems should provide individuals with greater control over their assets. Bitcoin allows people to hold and transfer value without relying entirely on traditional financial intermediaries.
WHY I BELIEVE BITCOIN STILL HAS ROOM TO GROW
Bitcoin has already established itself as the leading cryptocurrency by market recognition and adoption. However, I believe its long-term development is still worth watching.
Institutional participation is another factor that strengthens my interest. The introduction of regulated Bitcoin investment products in major markets has created additional avenues through which traditional investors can gain exposure to BTC.
I believe continued institutional participation could contribute to deeper markets, broader recognition and increased adoption.
I also consider Bitcoin's role as a potential alternative store of value. In an environment where people are increasingly concerned about inflation, currency depreciation and the long-term purchasing power of their savings, an asset with a transparent and predetermined monetary policy can be attractive.
This does not mean Bitcoin is immune to inflation-related pressures or market crashes. In fact, its volatility demonstrates that it remains a risky asset. Nevertheless, I believe its underlying monetary design gives it characteristics worth considering over a longer investment horizon.
MY CURRENT POSITION
According to my trading platform, I currently hold:
- Asset: Bitcoin (BTC)
- Quantity: 0.01293 BTC
- Average entry price: $77,360.10
- Current displayed price: Approximately $77,583.70
- Position value: $1,002.89
- Unrealised profit: $2.89 (+0.29%)
Although the current profit is relatively small, I am not holding Bitcoin simply to capture a few dollars from short-term price movements.
My interest is in its longer-term potential.
The one-hour chart currently shows considerable downward pressure, with Bitcoin declining from the $84,000 region towards the $78,000 region.
I recognise that this could indicate short-term weakness. However, I do not believe every correction automatically invalidates a long-term investment thesis.
I am more interested in whether Bitcoin continues to maintain its fundamental strengths, network security, adoption and relevance within the global financial ecosystem.
WHAT WOULD MAKE ME MORE CONFIDENT IN HOLDING BTC?
There are several developments I would like to see:
1. Continued institutional adoption: Increased participation from established financial institutions could strengthen Bitcoin's position in global financial markets.
2. Growing mainstream acceptance: More businesses, investors and individuals recognising Bitcoin as a legitimate financial asset could support long-term demand.
3. Network security: Continued investment in Bitcoin mining and network infrastructure is important to maintaining its security and reliability.
4. Long-term demand: I want to see genuine demand rather than temporary buying driven by speculation and social media excitement.
5. Regulatory clarity: Clearer and more consistent regulations across major economies could encourage wider participation.
6. Stronger market structure: I would like to see Bitcoin recover from corrections, establish sustainable support levels and demonstrate healthy long-term price development.
WHAT WOULD PROVE ME WRONG?
As much as I believe in Bitcoin's long-term potential, I understand that conviction must never become blindness.
There are circumstances that could seriously challenge my reasons for holding BTC.
1. A fundamental failure of Bitcoin's security
Bitcoin's security is one of the foundations of its value. A serious and unresolved vulnerability in its protocol, or a major compromise of its network, would fundamentally challenge my investment thesis.
2. A significant decline in adoption
If Bitcoin begins losing meaningful adoption, relevance and long-term demand, I would have to reconsider its growth potential. An asset cannot maintain its value indefinitely if the number of people who want to hold or use it continually declines.
3. Loss of institutional confidence
If major institutions begin abandoning Bitcoin because of fundamental concerns rather than temporary market conditions, I would pay close attention. A sustained withdrawal of institutional participation could weaken one of the important sources of market demand.
4. Serious regulatory restrictions
If major economies introduce restrictions that substantially undermine Bitcoin ownership, accessibility or legitimate market participation, its global adoption could be affected.
5. A sustained breakdown in market demand
I understand that Bitcoin experiences corrections. However, if declining demand becomes a prolonged structural trend rather than a temporary market cycle, I would question whether my original expectations remain realistic.
6. A fundamental change in its monetary proposition
Bitcoin's fixed supply is central to my investment thesis. Any fundamental change that undermines its predictable monetary policy would require me to reassess why I hold it.
MY FINAL POSITION
I hold Bitcoin because I believe in what it represents, not merely what its price might become tomorrow.
I recognise that the market can be unpredictable. Bitcoin can experience significant corrections, periods of consolidation and extended bearish cycles. I am not expecting a straight upward movement, and I am not assuming that historical performance guarantees future returns.
My conviction comes from its decentralised architecture, predetermined supply, established network, global recognition and potential role in the future of finance.
However, I am not so attached to my investment that I would ignore evidence against it.
If Bitcoin's fundamental value proposition deteriorates, if its security is seriously compromised, or if long-term adoption and demand weaken substantially, I will have to reconsider my position.
I want my investment decisions to be guided by evidence, not emotions.
I am not holding Bitcoin because I expect to become wealthy overnight. I am holding because I believe that an asset with a transparent monetary policy, a decentralised network and a growing global presence deserves consideration as a long-term store of value.
Ultimately, my objective is not to predict every market movement. It is to understand what I own, why I own it, what could make it more valuable, and what evidence would convince me that I was wrong.
I believe in Bitcoin, but I will always put the evidence above my conviction.
