Build a trading journal
One of the best trading “ideas” is to document every trade. Record:
- Why you entered
- Entry price
- Stop-loss
- Target
- Position size
- Timeframe
- Market conditions
- Result
- Mistake or lesson
After 30–50 trades, review the data. You may discover that certain setups perform much better than others.
A useful journal entry might look like this:
- Coin: BTC
- Timeframe: 4-hour
- Entry: $XX,XXX
- Stop-loss: $XX,XXX
- Take-profit: $XX,XXX
- Setup: Breakout and retest
- Reason for entry: Resistance was broken and successfully retested as support.
- Risk: 1% of account
- Result: +2R
- Emotion: Slightly nervous after entry
- Lesson: Waited for confirmation instead of chasing the breakout.
The most important part is the lesson. Don’t simply write “I lost $20.” Write why you lost. Perhaps you entered without confirmation, moved your stop-loss because you didn’t want to accept the loss, entered during an emotional moment, or traded against the overall trend.
